Pangaea
by Dylan Gilbert
1. I Know I Love Her
I know I love her but I don’t know how to tell her. She lives above me in
the room that’s just upstairs. If I could just get to courage to go knock on
her door, we would both be much happier with a hand to hold.
Oh no, It wouldn't be fair for her to live alone. All day she dreams of
herself wrapped in some boy’s arms.
I know I love her she’s as fragile as a flower. Painting and writing just
fill up her day. And from under the covers she’ll dream she can soar.
Outside the door of her apartment there could still be more.
Oh no, It wouldn't be fair for her to live alone. All day she dreams of
herself wrapped in some boy’s arms.
Whoa oh oh oh Whoa oh oh oh oh-oh-oh I know I love her.
Oh no, It wouldn't be fair for her to live alone. All day she dreams of
herself wrapped in some boy’s arms.
I know I love her but I don’t know how to tell her. She lives above me in
the room that’s just upstairs.
2. Isabella
Isabella lives alone in a tired old house by the riverfront.
She lives in silence and so it seems her mind is over taken by abandoned
dreams.
Sing us a song, Isabella. I know you have it in ya, my dear.
Isabella took the stage met with thunderous applause that the audience made.
It’s been many years ago since that day, since those glorious sounds echoed
through this place.
Sing us a song, Isabella. I know you have it in ya, my dear
Each night you sang your heart out. Oh, but you never found what you were
looking for.
Each night you sang your heart out. Oh, but you never found a love worth
dying for.
Sing us a song, Isabella. I know you have it in ya, my dear
Isabella lives alone in a tired old house by the riverfront
Her best days are behind her or so she says. The days so long ago that she
tries to forget
3. My Name is Arthur
My name is Arthur, I fold your sheets
I’m the one who makes sure you have a good night’s sleep.
And in the afternoon I sew the seeds in a garden not too far away.
And all that I want. And all that I need
Is a tall glass of wine and someone to carry me.
My name is Arthur, I come from the East
I’m saving my money till the day I get a family
I once had a woman and she cared for me, but that was long ago.
Now all that I want. And all that I need
Is a tall glass of wine and someone to carry me
My name is Arthur and I’ll make you breakfast
And a hot pot of coffee in my Sunday best
And in the evening I’ll take my rest and try to get things off my mind.
It takes a lifetime to get to where I am.
Sometimes I still don’t know where I’m headin’
I lay me down to rest in an empty bed.
my only escape is a dream in my head.
And all that I want. And all that I need
Is a tall glass of wine and someone
to hear me.
4. A Trip to the Zoo
I’ll take a trip to the zoo on a sunny day, those animals will chase my
cares away.
I’ll take a trip to the zoo on a very fine day, something about it I just
can’t explain.
I’ll see Lambs, and Giraffes, and Alligators, and Elephants,
and all kinds of things that I’ve never seen before.
I’ll take a trip to the zoo on a sunny day, those animals will chase my
cares away.
And all the troubled thoughts that fill my mind today are caught by the wind
and blown away.
I’ll see Lambs, and Giraffes, and Alligators, and Elephants,
and all kinds of things that I’ve never seen before.
And all that I want and all that I need is a song in my head and someone to
sing it to me.
5. I Wonder
I remember when I was a kid playing on the playground I wish those days
would never end.
And that was when I stood up and looked around and said “This could all be a
dream. This can’t be reality.”
And I Wonder was I dreaming it all? And I Wonder was I dreaming it all?
I remember when I was a kid I had imagination. I use to be a great novelist.
And that was when I looked down and read my page. Oh, when I think about it.
Oh, it seems like yesterday.
And I Wonder was I dreaming it all? And I Wonder was I dreaming it all?
I’ll be the first man on the moon without backdrops and a camera crew.
I’ll be the first president who won’t kill an honest man under my rule.
And I Wonder was I dreaming it all? And I Wonder was I dreaming it all?
6. What’s This All About?
Well I met a man who said he was another man in another life with a wife and
kids.
And he told me how he would pray at night and ask God to let him dream about
his former life.
What’s this all about? I can’t figure out what all this is suppose to mean?
Well I met a woman who said she’d loved before and the way that she
described it was like nothing I’ve ever heard. And she broke down right in
front of me and said “I hope the tears will bring him back to me”. Well I
knew a boy who said he was all alone when the pew in the cathedral was all
he’d ever known. And he’d spend his days trying to seek it out. The grandest
of loves he claimed he’d never found. What’s this all about? I can’t figure
out what all this is suppose to mean?
7. Baby Don’t Worry
She is...
The only girl at the party tonight without a date to take her
While I’m stranded on a mountain side, I’ve got a show tonight in Bristol
I tried to call her on the phone I couldn’t hear over the guitars
making music at my friends apartment here in Athens, Georgia.
But Baby Don’t Worry. I’m Right Here. If You Need Me. I’ll come running.
Got off work about an hour ago now she’s putting on her make up.
I’m sleeping in the streets of Brooklyn baby at 3 am with my cousin.
She’s setting her alarm clock now after a quiet night with her sisters.
I can’t sleep I’ve got the worst headache, I drove all night from
practically Washington.
But Baby Don’t Worry. I’m Right Here. If You Need Me. I’ll come running.
(Yes I Will)
I’ve gotta make it home tonight, she said she’ll meet me on my doorstep
I’ll be driving all through the night to get back to Charlotte.
But Baby Don’t Worry. I’m Right Here. If You Need Me. I’ll come running.
8. I Feel Lost
Oh no, where did you go my baby darling?
You were lead astray by the light of the Flannan Islands
I never thought Id see your face again
They told me you were lost at sea on the Mary Celeste
now I Feel Lost
Oh no, where did you go my lovely petunia?
Last I heard you were seen sailing in the Sargasso
I never thought I’d see your face again
Sailing with the likes David Lang or Benjamin Bathurst
I Feel Lost
and from here to the moon is a long way between two people
and all I can do is sit here and wait on you to make your move.
9. Pangaea
There’s a big ol’ world out there. Just let her go. She’ll come back to you
I swear.
If you weren't so far away we could be friends
I’ve been waiting everyday for you to come home
Now you’re not so far away. You’re always here with me
No more waiting everyday. Hallelujah.
10. The Last Thing You Thought About
You’ll remember these words the day you die.
You’ll be singing along as you’re closing your eyes.
And you’re holding on to the sound, It’s the last thing you thought about
You’ll get swept away, your tired wrinkled face
You never dream of storms anymore you only dream of foreign places
And you’re holding on to the sound, It’s the last thing you thought about
And I wish you well. And I wish you well.
And you’re Holding On. Yeah You’re Holding On (Repeat)
And You’re holding on to the sound, It’s the last thing you thought about

Let's Shake Hands: A Collection of B-Sides & Rarities
by Dylan Gilbert
1.
"Lets Shake Hands"
I’ve been driving down the highway and I could never find you.
That’s why I’m on my way back home.
I’ll tell you stories from where I’ve been
and send you photographs of the things I’ve seen.
I’ve been searching through billboards and I could never find you.
That’s why I’m on my way back home.
So Lets Shake, Lets Shake Hands
Lets Shake, Lets Shake Hands
2.
"We Paleontologists"
We Paleontologists, wont stand for this.
You better put those bones back in the ground
and give due credit to those who found it, We Paleontologists.
Is there someone here? Yeah, there’s someone here. I know you’re hurting.
Is there someone near? Yeah, there’s someone near. I can see through the
darkness.
Here comes Mr. Sunshine, to drop in his two cents.
He says he’s hopping trains down to Louisiana
and you’re digging graves and telling me that’s where you’d like to lay.
3.
"Tapestry"
When you come over the mountains, let me know.
When you come swimming past the shore line, please let me go
from these chains you wove like a tapestry,
from these chains you wove like a tapestry.
When you come knock on my door, please let me know
When you come to open up my eyes, baby let me go
from these chains you wove like a tapestry,
from these chains you wove like a tapestry.
4.
"Everything Will Be Just Fine"
We can talk about the light of the skyline, it almost feels like starlight.
Walking in the moonlight, breathing in the air.
We’ll hold each other close until we get warmer again.
And everything will be Just Fine
And everything will be...
Does even matter if the stars are out,
if no ones looking or making wishes tonight?
Can’t we walk through the park like we use to
and hold each other close until we get warmer again.
5.
"Holding On"
I am a merchant seaman. I am a weary traveler.
Please, do you have a room for me?
I must get word to my family that I have not abandoned thee, Innkeeper
please.
Send kisses to my love and send bread to my son.
It’s not that I’m holding out, I’m holding on
But in the night, baby, I don’t think I’ll ever make it home.
6.
"Protect Me"
How can this effect me? my brain is mixed up in the sound
How can this protect me, with the buzz of people all around?
People dance around me, their bodies mixed up in the sound.
They become white noise to me. Is that what I am to them?
7.
"Writer’s Block Blues"
I use to live in doors, I use to hide my face.
I use to stay locked up, wracking my brain.
Now I’m just singing till my throat’s sore.
Wont you sing along?

had a goodnight sleep. the wind coming through my window oh oh oh oh oooh. i
need to get back. back to the quiet life. back to the quiet life again. its
been 15 years since ive had a goodnight sleep (repeat). Safe from the noise
of the city ill keep my mind at ease.
2. "No Mystery"
a wandering minstrel a lonely circus clown dancing through the trees. every
word is smooth as silk and sung out earnestly. but she's getting wiser to
me.. there's no mystery anymore. and I wonder how she sleeps at night now
that I'm gone ...because baby I sure don't. I met a lovely well read girl on a
cold Paris street. she would often write with me sweet words for my
melodies. but she's getting wiser to me there's no mystery anymore. and I
wonder how she sleeps at night now that I'm gone because baby I sure don't.
Your getting wiser to me there's no mystery anymore and I wonder how you
sleep at night now that I'm gone cause baby I sure don't.
3. "Math"
say adieu to the ocean blue. It don't play games. It don't change at all it
don't change at all...it don't change.
it don't change. Do you count the waves as you sail away? Does life get
better further out to sea? You don't change at all you don't change at all you
don't...you don't change. You don't change at all.
4. "If You Leave Me"
If you leave me you don't to worry cause there's someone else out there who’ll
love you. That's not true with me I’ll spend my life alone. If you leave me
you don't have to say your sorry or come back my way I’ll be fine...I’ll
catch a comet and make my decent into a black hole. I’ll catch a comet and
make my decent into a black hole.
5. "Darlin' Don't Forget My Name"
Now that I...I'm an old man will you take me to the nursing home. Now that
I'm
a hundred years down that road will you bury my bones. Darlin Don't forget my
name darlin don't forget my name...whoa oh oh darlin don't forget my name
darlin don't forget my name. Now that I..Im an old man will you take me to
the mountain top...spend out the rest of my life and let the wind blow me
around. Oh but my baby says “Darlin don't get blown away darlin don't get blow
away.” whoa and Darlin don't get swept out to sea...darlin don't get swept out
to sea.
6. "Everytime You Open Up Your Eyes"
Read the Writings of a lonely novelist in a happy hollow where she never
speaks a sound. Everytime you open up your eyes everytime you open up your
eyes the days just seem to fly by everytime you open up your eyes. Come one
come all come hear the sound of the radio towers...they're burning down.
Hear the protest of the last folk singer. He calls himself “Allen-a-Dale”.
He and his lover have always been a mystery for telling the tallest of
tales. Everytime you open up your eyes everytime you open up your eyes the
days just seem to fly by everytime you open up your eyes. Come one come all
come hear the sound of the radio towers...they're burning down. Come one
come all come hear the sound of the radio towers...they're burning down!
Everytime I open up my eyes everytime I open up my eyes the days just seem
to fly by everytime I open up my eyes.
7. "Say What You Will"
Say What you will about the old woman living here working on the algebra on
her antique accordion. It’s never ending. the folks down in the town (are)
familiar with the sound. She told me she fears she’ll be swept up by the
wind before she can sing her favorite song on new years eve again, "Auld
Lang Syne". Folks down in the town will never hear the sounds. (outro)
8. "I Was All Alone"
I was all alone and I liked it that way. I thought the blowin' winds would
keep me safe and I had a grunge ( I had a grunge) on the whole wide world
(on the whole wide world) I thought that loneliness (loneliness) is what’s
iz(I was) livin for. And I don't think my life will ever be (shoo be doo wop
bow shoo be doo wop) and I don't think my life will ever be... I was all alone
and I liked it that way. I decided long ago love was just a game. She took
me by surprise. (took me by surprise) when I saw her eyes (when I saw her
eyes) I discovered that all I’d need was inside. Now I don't think my life
will ever be (shoo be doo wop bow shoo be doo wop) and I don't think my life
will ever be.... the same. I was buried underneath the snow when you found
me here. With you around I’ll never grow cold ever again. And I don't think
my life will ever be (shoo be doo wop bow shoo be doo wop) and I don't think
my life will ever be...will ever be...will ever be...the same.
9. "I’ll Plant A Seed"
I’ll plant a seed and prey that it grows taller than anything I’ve seen.
Taller than a mighty oak tree and I’ll ask my tree why his leaves are
changing but he won’t answer me...my tree don’t speak to me. and the rain
drops fall from a hole up in the clouds...they seem satisfied just to hit
the ground. And of all these things I’ve seen there’s none more beautiful
than you. Mhhmm mmhmm. And the sun will set even if I ask him to stay with
me...He knows the times are changing. And mother earth will turn at a lazy
speed...never in a hurry...she knows the world’s not ending this is just the
beginning. she knows the world’s not ending this is just the beginning. And
of all these things I’ve seen there’s none more beautiful than you. mhmmhmmm.
10. "Before My Egg Hatches"
I’ll think of all my future lovers and all their smiling faces...all the
planes and freeways of all the foreign places. How the sunlight feels when
it falls upon my skin and all the tales that I can tell when I am finished
here. Before my egg hatches, hatches and before my shell starts crackin,
crackin...Oh I so fear the brand new day on the other side. Before my egg
hatches, hatches...am I something or am I nothing...nothing? whoa whoa
whoa...(organ solo) and my body spills onto the ground for the very first
time...I’ll think of all my future lovers and all their smiling faces...all
the planes and freeways of all the foreign places. How the sunlight feels
when it falls upon my skin and all the tales that I can tell when I am
finished here, when my body spills onto the ground, when my body spills onto
the ground, when my body spills onto the ground for the very first
time...for the very first time...I’ll think of all my future lovers and all
their smiling faces...all the planes and freeways of all the foreign places.
11. "This Is War"
Bop Bah Bop Bah, etc.
This chance has taken me by the hand well over and out the captain shouts:
“This is War....this is war...this is war...this is warrrrrrr!”
This chance has taken me by the hand well over and out I shout to my men on
the ground:
“This is War....this is war...this is war...this is warrrrrrr!”
(noise)
12. "When the Storm Came"
when the storm came we were right as rain in our little fishing boat in the
bay. Our boat was overturned and I remember the words “Oh Captain, why do we
deserve this?” Ohhhhh Oohh (men sinking)
when the storm came we were swept away...now we live in a little town under
the waves.
and I thought to myself “this will be a glorious day...a glorious daaaaay”
When the storm came...when the storm came.
13. "Life with Wolves"
When you come down off the mountain will you come and spend some time with
me. You say you’ll cut that hair and file down your fangs ...well your life
with wolves has come...to an end.
But you still...howl at the moon.
Since I’ve seen your pale pink skin I never wanna see you wear your fur coat
again...and that’s just fine with you ..for the rest of your life with
wolves has come ...to an end.
But you still...howl at the moon.
But you still...howl at the moon.
14. "Please Repeat"
I know you know all the secrets ...all the honesty coming through the
speakers. As you unmask yourself tonight cinematic quality makes the moment
come alive.
(Dialogue)
“Wait...Stay!”
“Don’t give your life away!”
Lights will flash across the screen. each act of emotion played out
seamlessly as I unmask myself tonight...the crowds applause makes the moment
come alive.
“Wait....Stay”
“Don’t give your life away just to hold me in your arms!”
heavy art
expensive literature
clear connection with the people
old America’s language
the way we speak
radio is taken apart piece by piece!
“Wait...Stay!”
“Don’t give your life away just to hold me in your arms!”

The Artist & The Scientist
by Dylan Gilbert
1. "Juliet"
oh my sweet baby darlin/ where have you been its been so long/
why are you so far away?/why do I have to live this way?

why are you so far away?/why do I have to live this way? oh baby girl
2. "Had It All"
let the radio sound your favorite song so you and you're friends can dance
all night long/ you turn to me and tell me some things wrong/ yeah, some
things wrong you've been singing the same ol song/ I tried to show you the
world/ but you were to busy going up, down & inside out well you don't know
what you're missing/ sure you had it all but it aint nothin at all/
curtains are crying and they're telling me about their friends but all their
stories were fruitless in the end/ the night has stumbled to the arms of the
sun/ when you awake you'll have no idea what you've done.
3. "Across Your Floor"
last night I had a dream that you were weak and crippling/ finding your only
comforting in a nest made of steal/ oh but you still dressed the same not
much else had changed but before you had a smile that could sweep boys off
their feet/ now your lips have embraced a weaker disposition and chose only
to share a select few teeth/ but still when my shoes come squeaking across
your floor the steps that I take aren't very sturdy anymore/ we'll make a
swift get away.
4. "In Camera"
and by then it was morning and the sun crept through my window to bring a
brand new day/ well my neighbor the filmmaker only feels safe in her camera/
there she can make the world change in her favor/ baby I'm the only one who
knows and baby I know/ we take walks together in the cold months of November
I try to ease her troubled mind/ my baby wears a scarf to keep the things
she thinks in her throat but there's a heart that's falling apart under your
coat.
5. "Honest"
you've got me where you want/ I'm so in love girl/ I wanna sing you a song/
baby you know I love you so/ I'm being honest
6. "The Process Of Filmmaking"
(instrumental)
7. "Sail Away"
lets go see a movie lets go see a film/ one to reminisce in black & white/
no color in the air/ no need to coordinate/ it doesn't matter what you wear/
you know what I'm thinking and I know what you'll say/ oh I'm sorry I've been
gone so...I've been gone so long/ I was lost (I was lost) I was lost in a
dream/ you will sail away all expenses paid.
8. "New York City Apartment"
Can you help me take the paint on your finger and smear the color off my
face/ off my face/ can I take you out to dinner and we can waste away with
wonder of which of us is the bigger bag of bones/ can your face win you a
lifetime and a boyfriend with a skyline/ a view from the top of his New York
city apartment.
9. "On Holiday"
and every morn she wakes for the sun to rise on her face/ and every night
she stays up for the stars/ it is customary my dear for a young gentlemen
who fancies a beautiful girl to think of her (to write to her) when she's on
holiday/ and every morn she wakes in a bed in a bed made of mirrors/ and
every night she stays up to read the words..words written down to make her
smile...smile and laugh out loud when he's on holiday.
10. "The Letter"
I'm writing you a letter/ just seeing how you've been/ cause things aint felt
the same since the day you left/ give me one more chance/ give me one more
chance and I swear things will be so much better/ love of mine please write/
you're writing me a letter just seeing how I've been/ it was filled with
snowflakes...all the cold words that you said.

Oh No Oh Now I Know
by Dylan Gilbert
1. "Tangled Up In Knots"
Tangled. I'm tangled up in knots. Tangled like the knots in her hair. I'm
tangled up in knots. Tangled up in knots. Feel my heart. Feel my heart
beating, yeah. Am I alive? Am I on Fire?
2. "You're Not Just Saying That"
How long can I sit on the steps of your apartment that's sits about a mile
from downtown? I walk up the stairs...carrying roses. Watching my breath in
the air. She opens the door and she nearly faints...kissing this boy on the
cheek. "Cut! Print! Someone please stop the papers! what a bloody good poem,
my dear." I say "Thank you, darlin for your compliment, but you're not just
saying that are you dear? You're not just saying that....
are you? When I am at battle I take nearly fatal blows to the chest. I come
wandering, staggering back to the town where you rest your head and ill do
my best to keep my heart from falling out of these bandages. This payphone
sure came in handy tonight. When I call will you put your arms around me and
stitch it back in place? You're not just saying that are you dear? You're not
just saying that are you? Now that's what I call romance.
3. "Oh No Oh Now I Know"
Never thought id see you coming back. Never thought id see your face around
here, oh no oh now I know. I saw you following a trail of bread crumbs into
the woods last night. I was wondering where you were going. You found a
house of temptation...and you said it could be a swift migration from my
house to your house and back. I sing a song about your leaving. I never
thought id see your face around her, oh no oh now I know. I Couldn't think of
all the words that I had said. Now I Know them all my darlin. Yeah, she
calls me darlin. Oh I never thought id see her growing old. She's making art
with her fingers. She said "darlin I have to let it linger and wait till the
paint dries" but I know what she was really saying and that's that
she's not
planning on staying not even to put my heart on plain white paper. She's
making art with her finger. She said "darlin I have to let it linger and
wait till the paint dries" but I know what she was really thinking and
that's
that she's planning on leaving as she put her hands over my eyes.
4. "Not Following You"
say what you haven't said in a long time. Its alright, I'm not falling for you
and you're not falling for me. Silhouettes walking down the street at night.
Singing "Oh Oh" They're not following you. They're not following me. They're
not following you.
5. "She Paints In Blues"
Painting a picture and your brush strokes will make things all better. and I
know I'm a fool for waiting. and I know that I'm a fool. And I cant wait too
long for your colors to evolve into something entirely new. I hardly even
know you. And I cant wait too long for your .45 record to start playing our
song. Oh, its been way too long. She paints in blues and there is nothing I
can do....if she don't show her pretty little head around here soon.
(I cant wait too long, but wait now I've been singing you a song. I didn't
think you'd ever hear it. Oh but I don't know.)
6. "To Cry Alarm"
Like a cardboard cut-out walking in the snow...a painted white Polaroid. Has
my optimistic fear helped create wonderful composition. All I need in all
the world is to cry alarm and wake this town from their silent slumber. I
wish you'd drop out of school and come back and see me. la de da. Is anybody
home, tonight? Is anybody listening? Is anybody there who knows what its
like feeling this way? Can you hear the song I'm singing?
Waiting for me to get home. Whoa... Whoa Oh Oh.
